Luna

I hate my name. It’s got nothing to do with me. I call myself Luna, because I like the moon, and Luna is the Italian word for moon. I think my dad was Italian. I’ve got this crescent moon necklace I always wear, my mum gave it to me for my twelfth birthday, just before she threw me out. I suppose I should chuck it in the bin, but it’s the only thing I’ve got that’s about my proper relatives, and maybe one day I could pass it on to my own kids, if I ever have any. All I can say is I hope they have a better start in life than me.

I’m with this new foster family at the moment, called the Hopes. The dad seems all right, but the mum’s a typical smarmy do-gooder and the daughter Nicole ignores me. Not that I care – I don’t intend to spend a lot of cosy evenings with them. I’ve got a boyfriend called Chris they don’t know about, he’s 21, and he’s got his own bedsit on the seafront, so I go and visit him when school gets boring (which is often). I get to go pubbing and clubbing with him – no-one ever asks me how old I am – I’m actually 15, but I look older. Can’t wait to be 18 and get the hell out of Kingsmouth. I love rock music, my favourite song at the moment is 'Conquistador' by Cortez.
