Monday

Drama at Bus Stop! Girl knocked down! Fight ensues! I like headlines. Those would be the ones for today, if I worked on a newspaper. I was sitting on my school bag because I was fed up with standing. I’d found a copy of Celebrity Love Lives someone had left at the bus stop and had just got to the bit about Justin Timberlake’s hot dates when there was a horrible crunching noise and a lot of screaming started up. Some woman in a Petalz van had hit this girl in the road. (My mum’s factory supplies Petalz, it’s in the High Street.) Then there were police and the ambulance arrived and everyone starts talking at once. Even that geezer with the funny ties got involved. Then two boys at the bus stop get into a fight, which neither of them wins. One of them, this fit boy in a tracksuit, whacked the other one in the face. It was well exciting. It was weird as well, because we’ve all been at this bus stop for a long time (well – not all of us – there was a Goth-looking girl there I’ve never seen before) – anyway, we’ve never spoken before, we usually all mind our own business and wait for the bus. And suddenly we’ve got blood and guts and screaming and fighting. I suppose that’s one way to break the ice. I wonder if that girl is going to be all right. She looked pretty terrible when they loaded her into the ambulance.

Tuesday

Saw the Goth girl from the bus stop being told off in the corridor today by Miss Paston. I tried to give her a sympathetic look but she just said, “What are you looking at, fatso?” so I carried on walking. Everyone heard. I went into the toilets and had a bit of a cry in a cubicle, but then some girls came in and banged on the door so I left.

Friday

I hate Fridays. My dad goes to the pub with his mates from the 'old country' after work and always comes home stinking of booze and in a bad mood. So he starts shouting at mum and I get in the middle, because I don’t see why he has to give mum a hard time when she’s only just sat down. Anyway, I get the usual crap about not dissing your father (Portuguese thing – “respeite seu pai!”) and I tell him you have to earn respect and then I leg it out of the room. I’m up here now waiting for the big explosion. He’s still yelling at mum, and Alejandro’s come in here to hide, but any minute now he’ll come busting in and give me hell.
